메리 크리스마스! 25/12/2010

Ok so it just turned Christmas 23 minutes ago in the Eastern time zone, but its Christmas anyway 🙂 I’m looking forward to spending time with family and going out to eat at the best Chinese restaurant (Yes…Chinese, and not Korean, food. My family is a little pickier about food than I am, but this “Chinese” food is amaaaaaaazing anyway).

Got an email from Netflix today saying I should be receiving my next disc of “Be Strong, Geum-soon!” volume 1 on Monday, which is sooner than expected, so yay 🙂 Disc one leaves in the middle of a really exciting plot so I can’t wait!

I really want to order off from G-Market but their website is so difficult for me to navigate. Even with the English version, all the listings are in Korean which would be great if my Korean was just a liiiiiiittle bit better.  I wish I could use the Singapore site, which is all in English, but I can’t 😦 Maybe once I become more proficient, I will get a gmarket haul as a reward for myself 🙂

Anyway, I should be getting to bed so I’m well rested for today’s festivities 🙂 Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad and 메리 크리스마스 to all!

Daeji Bulgogi and Cookies! 20/12/2010

So I made the Daeji Bulgogi tonight and it turned out pretty well! I have pictures on my “Shannon Cooks Korean Too” page. Found out I don’t really care for Kimchi. Maybe if I rinse it so the sourness isn’t so strong, I will like it.

I also visited my first Korean Grocery today and I picked up a bottle of 고추장  (kochujang- the spicy chili paste) and I saw a box of Kancho cookies which looked interesting so I picked some up. Here is a picture timeline of my adventure with 칸초(Kancho)

The "Kancho". Isn't it cute?

The equally-cute inner pouch 🙂

The actual product. So cute, as promised ❤

The delicious chocolate center. These didn't last long 😀

Reinventing the Wheel…errr…The Ramen 19/12/2010

My dinner tonight was somewhat Korean- inspired. I cooked up a packet of Ramen (yeah yeah, I know, its technically Japanese because I prefer Maruchan) but I threw away the chicken seasoning pack and added a TON of red pepper flakes, and some garlic. I added some teriyaki-marinated steak on top and mixed in some peas. Pretty tasty and hot as HELL, lol. I think this is why Korean food is attractive to me- I love love love spicy and hot food. I eat red pepper flakes on pretty much everything; same with tabasco sauce.

Anyway, I took a pic of my delicious spin on Ramen noodles

My Spicy Beef and Noodles

Yum Yum 🙂 I have leftover steak and a never-ending supply of Ramen so I think I will probably have this again for lunch tomorrow and then for dinner, I will have my Dwaeji Bulgogi with either noodles or rice and maybe some Kimchi if I can get my hands on it 🙂 Pics to come!

I also made a new page called “Shannon Cooks Korean Too” where I will post all of my culinary adventures so make sure you check that out!

Korean Food :)

Well, kinda. I had Ramen noodles for lunch (yes, I know, they are more of a crappy Japanese food than Korean but it was delicious nonetheless 😛 ) and I marinated some chicken in chili paste and red pepper flakes, mixed it with peas, and poured it on top of the Ramen. Very tasty 🙂

We have some pork loin in the freezer so I think I am going to make 돼지불고기 (Pork Bulgogi) for dinner tomorrow. Found a good recipe online and its something that even my non-Korean-food-loving family will enjoy. I mean, its just spicy pork with a side of veggies (and maybe some plain ramen noodles as well).

Speaking of (authentic) Korean food, there are actually a lot of restaurants that are within 20 minutes from my town and I have yet to try any of them out 😦 One of them is connected to a Korean grocery store, so I will definitely have to check that out, as no regular grocery stores in my area carry kimchi. All of the Korean restaurants around here have received glowing reviews so I’m super excited to give them my patronage. I’ll have to wait until my “adventurous-eater” friends are in town, lol.

I will post pics of my 돼지불고기 tomorrow night, for the one or two people who might be reading this blog 😛
